MANNING MAN HANDLES PHILLY@#@%@#%@#%@

ImageDAVID AND GOLIATH WAS NO CONTEST….THE BRONCOS (GOLIATH) COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE BIRDS.  PEYTON MANNING IS SUPERMAN………ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER BLOWOUT!Image

ImageWHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SUNDAY”S MARQUEE NFL MATCHUP TURNED OUT TO BE ANOTHER NO CONTEST.  These games are becoming all to familiar with any team that faces the Denver Broncos these days.  On Sunday, Peyton Manning threw another 4 Touchdown Passes, which gives him 16 TD’s in only Four Games.  Even more Impressive is the fact that he has yet to throw an interception.  Peyton man handled the Philadelphia Eagles.  No matter what the Eagles defense scheme was, Manning had an answer.  The Eagles stacked Eight Men in the Box and blitzed and Manning threw the quick out.  The Eagles played zone and Manning picked them apart over the middle.  The Bronco’s Trindon Holiday, one of the premier Return Men in the game, even ran back a 105 Yard Kickoff Return for a score.  Hell…The Bronco’s even converted a blocked punt into a score.

Yesterday I posted about the Eagles chances of beating the Bronco’s and what they would have to do to have success.  #1) Put Pressure on Manning…Check.  Well, the Eagles did anything but put pressure on Peyton as he looked like a statue back in the pocket.  #2) Run the Ball and slow down the game…Check.  Well, the Eagles had their lowest rushing total of the season and the Time of Possession was a joke.  #3) Change the Game plan Chip Kelly-Make Adjustments…Check.  My suspicion was right as Chip Kelly didn’t adjust and continued to try and run the “Oregon Duck” to the T.  Whats wrong with this picture right now folks.  Andy Reid and the Chiefs are 4-0 and the Eagles are 1-3.  It makes you really wonder was the Eagles problem really Andy Reid.  Look, I am in no way saying that a change was not needed.  However, I don’t care what type of offensive scheme you use…West Coast, Read Option, Run and Shoot, RUN, Play Action, No Huddle, Hurry Up, Roll Out, Shotgun.  None of these schemes will work when your team does not have the personnel to execute.

First of all…the Eagles could play the Jacksonville Jaguars right now and still have trouble winning a game.  The fact is, this Defense is absolutely Putrid.  That is putting it lightly.  OK…THIS DEFENSE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!  Yes I said it.  The Eagles Defense, which used to be the backbone of this team in all of their successful seasons may be the worst I have ever saw.  They could cut everyone on this Defense and start over for all that I am concerned.  The Eagles have plenty of star power on Offense.  Mike Vick can be a star when he has time to throw the ball.  LeSean McCoy is one of the most dynamic running backs in the game.  DeSean Jackson “DJAX” is a highlight film in the making.  However, this offensive line is putrid just like the defense.  When will Jeff Lurie realize that the problem on this team is personnel.  I do not care if you had Bill Bellicheck coaching this team…I don’t care if you had Mike Ditka coaching this team…John Madden Anyone???  Yeah.

I am a huge fan of Chip Kelly.  I am even more enamored with the “Oregon Duck” offensive scheme.  However, what this team lacks is tenacity.  And they truly cannot defend my grand mom…God rest her soul.  In the offseason, I made it a cry out for the Eagles to go against the Grain and sign a Defensive Minded Coach.  This team needs to learn the fundamentals of the game such as tackling, pass rushing, audibles, etc.  The amazing thing is…if the Eagles had the Bears 85 Defense…they still would have got their ASS KICKED yesterday.  Peyton Manning now has 16 Touchdowns/0 Interceptions/1400 Yards Passing…and most importantly his team is 4-0.  Manning is on pace to have 64 Touchdowns this season…can you say WOWWWWWWWWW!  Knowshon Moreno has been very serviceable in the backfield as he scored a Touchdown yesterday as well.

The most glaring mistake that I saw yesterday was the inability of Chip Kelly to adjust his game plan.  Sound familiar???  What is it with all of these high profile coaches and their egos?  Note to Chip…If you can slow the game down then it will limit the amount of time that Manning is on the field which in turn will limit his damage.  But no Chip…you keep doing the same thing with all of your different packages, no huddle, hurry up, shot gun, etc.  You have LeSean McCoy!!!  He should have had at least 30 Touches in the game yesterday.  Oh well…it appears that Peyton Manning is going out on top while the precious Birds are getting a crash course in growing pains.  Look, no one significant expected the Eagles to make the playoff this year.  However, in this NFC least they still very well could do that as bad as this division is.  The thing is though, if they do not adjust the game plan, especially during a game, then they will fail every time.  Meanwhile, as a FOOTBALL fan, we all can just marvel at the man named PEYTON MANNING.  Peyton is the MAN right now.  He is putting up ridiculous stats  right now.  The Broncos could go undefeated.  They are the best team in the league hands down.  So Eagles, now it is off to New York to face the 0-4 New York Giants who want blood.  So…as we look back and move forward…we know this team is a long way from competing with the big boys.  Stay tuned tomorrow as I recap Week 4 in the NFL and analyze the winners and losers in Fantasy Football.  Enjoy this beautiful Monday Folks…HOLLA.

THE EAGLE IS GROUNDED

IMG_0012     As exciting as it was to watch the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Redskins in Week #1…there were still many unanswered questions that arose after watching “The Oregon Duck” offensive system.  One thing I believe that escaped the cracks in the fallout from Week #1 was how God Awful this defense could really be this season.  I mean, going into this season it appeared that the Eagles had at least improved in some aspects of their Defensive side of the ball.  However, after Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, it appears that there are infinite cracks in the Eagles armor.

First of all, the Eagle’s secondary is hideous.  That may be too nice of a word.  For those of you that are from my generation, their Secondary SUCKS!  Ok…that sounds better.  Nate Allen is an absolute disgrace of a safety and he makes Erik McMillan (Safety 1988-1993) look like an ALL-PRO.  Nate Allen can’t do anything right at the Safety Position.  He consistently gets burned by fast receivers.  In fact…he gets burned by average receivers like Eddie Royal of the San Diego Chargers.

Nate Allen may also be the worst tackler I have ever saw in the NFL.  He should be cut yesterday.  The other Eagle’s Safety, Patrick Cheung is average at best.  He made a few tackles on Sunday, but he is not suited to the 3-4 Defense that is employed by the Eagles at this time.  Now let us go to the Cornerback Position.  Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams are considered O.K. by NFL standards, but O.K. does not cut it in today’s Pass Hungry/Offensive Happy League.  I mean, a few years back we had Lito Shepherd and Sheldon Brown.  So much has changed since then.  First, the Eagles signed Asante Samuels in a move that looking back, had the if you can’t beat them…join them MOTTO.  In other words, the New England Patriots were the top standard not only on offense, but their Defense was stellar as well.  Samuel had a few good seasons, he was a playmaker.  However, he would not even fit this defensive system.  And do we have to rehash the nightmare named Nhamdi Asamugha.  I am not even sure if I even spelled his name right…but who cares, he may have been in the TOP 10 Eagles WORST Free Agent Signings of all time.

We as fans were also sold a bill of goods when we were told that our Linebacker Core had improved.  Maybe on paper this was true.  The Free Agent Demaco Ryans from last year, draft pick Brandon Graham, Casey Matthews, etc.  However, these linebackers were torn apart by an older Tight End Antonio Gates and a career number three wide receiver Eddie Royal.  The Middle was like a war zone and all of the Chargers land mines struck the gold target.  The Eagles could not cover the middle, which also made them susceptible to the Deep Crossing Pass.

Now let us look at the most important part of the 3-4 Defense, the Defensive Line.  The down lineman need to get a push up the middle to allow the outside linebackers to put pressure on the quarterback.  There is only one problem with this…what happens when the Defensive Line cannot even sniff the quarterback??  Who is Cedric Thornton?  He is one of the Eagle’s Defensive Starting Ends.  He wears Number 72.  Well, do you want to hear a funny stat.  Thornton was almost on the field for all of the Eagle’s Defensive Plays…minus a few.  Well, We never heard his name called once…not even on the television.  Does Cedric Thornton exist?  Was he really playing Sunday or was it just a mirage.  The Eagles managed just one sack and one hurry.  Phillip Rivers looked like Terry Bradshaw in his heyday, sitting back in the pocket ALL DAY LONG…one play even kept alive for 20 seconds.  Sorry, I am a die hard Eagles fan, but these facts are UNACCEPTABLE.  This Defense is putrid!

I was listening to 94 WYSP, the Eagle’s post-game show as I usually do on Sunday.  I was driving home from work having missed the entire game.  But I did not have to see the game to know that the Defense played horribly.  The stats showed it all.  I always look at sacks, hurries, and pressures and you can usually see if a defense was good, despite the final score.  Also, yards allowed is a key number.  Well, the Eagles gave up over 500 Yards to the Chargers offense!  Yeah, thats not a mistake folks…500 Yards.  What did the Eagles forget this was the NFL.  Well, while listening to the post-game show I heard many dumb callers.  However, the dumbest call of the day belonged to some fan who truly believes that the Eagles are going to go 14-2 and win their first Super Bowl.  Come AGAIN!!!  Are You Kidding me?!  He said that this was an anomaly and that the Eagles can win no matter what with their High Octane Offense.  He referred to the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants who had the 31st and 30th worst defenses the years that they won their Super Bowls.  There is one huge difference here.  Although those defenses did give up points, they also put plenty of pressure on the quarterback.

Hearing this guy made my stomach cringe.  First and foremost, I am extremely excited about this Offense and I am a true believer in Chip Kelly.  Furthermore, I do believe that we can win a lot of games by outscoring opponents.  However, I am a die hard fan.  And as an Eagles fan, I still go by the mantra that Defense wins Championships.  Wow, I truly miss those Bud Carson and Jim Johnson Defenses.  Even remember the Buddy Ryan era…the Eagles always had a potent offense but they were lead by their defense.  I am afraid to admit it, but until this team addresses it’s defensive woes, I do not feel that they will be going anywhere.  They could sign Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall and A.P.  Their offense can be as potent as they want but they have to be able to have some assembly of a Defense.  So…Chip Kelly, if you are listening, please address this defense ASAP.  And also, let me give you one huge piece of advice…please do not ever mention the words…”I need to do a better job next time.”  Seriously, we spent the last fourteen years listening to that same phrase and we grew to HATE the person who spoke those words.  So, create another phrase for press conferences and interviews.  And no matter what you do the rest of the year, a win Thursday is an absolute MUST!!!!!  I cannot watch Andy Reid beat this team.  I just can’t.

OREGON DUCKS NFL STYLE

OK…SO THE CHIP KELLY ERA WITH THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES OFFICIALLY BEGAN ON MONDAY EVENING IN WASHINGTON.  EVERYONE THAT HAS SAW ANY TYPE OF GAME FOOTAGE FROM CHIP’S DAYS AT OREGON, WHERE HE MADE THE DUCKS A PERENNIAL POWERHOUSE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL, HAS SAW HOW CHIP’S STYLE OF OFFENSE CAN COMPLETELY DOMINATE A FOOTBALL GAME.  HOWEVER, THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION WAS HOW HIS “SPREAD” OFFENSE WOULD TRANSITION INTO THE NFL.  UNLIKE COLLEGE, WHERE THERE IS AN UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF PLAYERS TO USE IN AN ENTIRE GAME…AND ALSO WHERE THE DROP OFF FROM STARTER TO RESERVE IS NOT THAT LARGE, THE NFL HAS A LIMITED ROSTER AND THE DROP OFF FROM THE STAR PLAYERS TO THE RESERVES IS ENORMOUS.  MOREOVER, THE EAGLES DID NOT TIP OFF ANY SECRETS DURING THE PRESEASON AS THEY RAN A MORE TRADITIONAL OFFENSE.

SO MONDAY NIGHT WAS A MONUMENTAL NIGHT, NOT ONLY FOR THE EAGLES, BUT ALSO FOR THE NFL.  THROUGHOUT HISTORY, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY DIFFERENT OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SCHEMES THAT HAVE COME TO FRUITION.  WE HAD BILL WALSH, THE FATHER OF THE “WEST COAST OFFENSE”, THAT WAS CREATED DURING THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS DOMINANCE IN THE EIGHTIES THROUGH THE NINETIES.  SO MANY COACHES AROUND THE LEAGUE OF THE PAST AND PRESENT WERE BY PRODUCTS OF THAT OFFENSIVE STYLE AND WERE GROOMED BY WALSH.  MIKE HOLMGREN, JOHN GRUDEN, ANDY REID, RAY RHOADS, AND STEVE MARIUCCI ARE JUST A FEW THAT COME TO MIND.  WE ALSO HAD THE “RUN AND SHOOT” WITH THE HOUSTON OILERS AND BUFFALO BILLS OF THE LATE EIGHTIES AND EARLY NINETIES.  THEN WE HAD THE SAINT LOUIS RAMS, BEHIND KURT WARNER, MARSHALL FAULK, TORY HOLT, AND MORE THAT BROUGHT THE RUN AND SHOOT TO A NEW LEVEL WITH MORE OF  A “HURRY-UP” OFFENSE.  HOWEVER, NONE OF THESE OFFENSES COME CLOSE TO THE COMPLEXITY OF CHIP KELLY’S “SPREAD OFFENSE”…OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE OREGON DUCK OFFENSE.

LAST NIGHT THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES KEPT WASHINGTON’S DEFENSE ON ITS TOES AND KEPT FANS ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS FROM THE FIRST SNAP.  DURING THE FIRST HALF, THE EAGLES OFFENSE RAN 53 PLAYS WHICH WAS THE MOST IN THE FIRST HALF SINCE THE 1998 VIKINGS, WHO RAN 56 PLAYS.  THE NFL RECORD FOR PLAYS IN A GAME WAS 93, OF WHICH ONLY THREE TEAMS HAVE ACCOMPLISHED.  THE NFL AVERAGE IN 2012 FOR OFFENSIVE PLAYS WAS 64.  THE PATRIOTS LEAD THE LEAGUE WITH 74.  THE EAGLES ENDED THE GAME WITH 77 TOTAL OFFENSIVE PLAYS, NOT BAD FOR AN OFFENSE ON IT’S FIRST GAME TOGETHER.  THE EAGLES ACTUALLY RAN 19 OFFENSIVE PLAYS BEFORE RGIII EVEN TOOK THE FIELD.  OF COURSE, THERE WAS A CONTROVERSIAL TURNOVER ON THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE GAME, WHERE MICHAEL VICK WAS CALLED FOR A FUMBLE THAT THE REDSKINS PICKED UP AND RAN BACK FOR A TOUCHDOWN.  THIS CHIP KELLY OFFENSE WAS SO FAST PACED, NOT ONLY USING NO HUDDLE AND HURRY-UP TECHNIQUES, BUT ASLO MULTIPLE FORMATIONS AND SPREADS.  AT ONE POINT, THE EAGLES LEFT AND RIGHT TACKLES WERE FLANKED OUT WIDE AS RECEIVERS WITH THREE DOWN LINEMAN AND MICHAEL VICK IN THE SHOTGUN.  I AM NOT SURE I HAVE EVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN MY TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS OF WATCHING NFL FOOTBALL.

SO EAGLES FANS AND PLAYERS ALIKE HAD TO BE THRILLED WITH WHAT THEY SAW LAST NIGHT.  JUST IMAGINE IF THE EAGLES HAD MORE OFFENSIVE WEAPONS, DON’T FORGET THEY ARE MISSING THEIR NUMBER ONE RECEIVER JEREMY MACLIN.  ANOTHER CRAZY STAT LAST NIGHT WAS THE FACT THAT THE EAGLES RAN THE BALL 49 TIMES, WHICH WAS THE MOST SINCE 1997.  ANDY REID COACHED THIS TEAM FOR FOURTEEN YEARS AND THE EAGLES NEVER RAN THE BALL THAT MANY TIMES.  IN FACT, UNDER ANDY REID, THE MOST TIMES THE EAGLES EVER RAN THE BALL IN A GAME WAS 37 TIMES AND THAT WAS INCLUDING GAMES THAT DONOVAN MCNABB RAN THE BALL.  LeSEAN McCOY RAN 31 TIMES FOR 184 YARDS WHIUCH WAS ONE SHY OF HIS CAREER HIGH.  AT HALFTIME, THE EAGLES HAD 21 FIRST DOWNS WHICH EQUALED THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF OFFENSIVE PLAYS THAT THE REDSKINS HAD MADE.  DESEAN JACKSON HAD SEVEN CATCHES FOR 104 YARDS AND A TOUCHDOWN, HIS SIXTEENTH 100 YARD PERFORMANCE, WHICH IS ALREADY FIFTH ALL-TIME FOR THE EAGLES IN HIS STILL YOUNG CAREER.  THE GAME ALSO FEATURED A BRENT CELEK TOUCHDOWN AS ANOTHER CALLING CARD OF THE “CHIP STYLE” OFFENSE IS THE FEATURE OF THE TIGHT END.  MICHAEL VICK ALSO RAN FOR A TOUCHDOWN AND DID NOT TURN THE BALL OVER, WHICH WAS HIS FIRST ERROR FREE GAME SINCE HIS 2010 COMEBACK SEASON.

THE  EAGLES PERFORMANCE DID NOT COME MISTAKE FREE.  THE OFFENSIVE LINE, ALTHOUGH THEY DID LOOK BETTER THAN LAST SEASON, STILL LOOKED SHAKY AT TIMES.  MICHAEL VICK WAS SACKED THREE TIMES AND HIT HARD TEN PLUS TIMES.  SO THERE ARE MANY QUESTIONS.  CAN THIS HIGH FLY OFFENSE MAINTAIN SUCCESS THROUGH A BRUTAL 16 GAME SEASON AND POSSIBLE PLAYOFF RUN?  CAN MICHAEL VICK SUSTAIN A HEALTHY SEASON IF THE LINE CANT DO A BETTER JOB IN BLOCKING.  CENTER JASON KELCE, THE EAGLES SMALLEST LINEMAN, ADMITTED TO NEEDING AN OXYGEN MASK WHICH WAS HIS FIRST TIME SINCE COLLEGE.  SO YES, THERE ARE STILL QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW FAR THIS OFFENSE CAN GO BEFORE BURNING OUT.  CAN DESEAN JACKSON, A SMALLER TYPE RECEIVER, REMAIN HEALTHY FOR A SIXTEEN GAME PERIOD?  IN  CONCLUSION, THERE ARE MANY QUESTIONS THAT REMAIN.

NONETHELESS, THE FIRST GAME OF THE CHIP KELLY ERA PROVIDED EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT AND AN EXPLOSIVE OFFENSIVE OUTPUT.  THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR A TEAM THAT HAS WEAPONS SUCH AS THE EAGLES.  MICHAEL VICK, LeSEAN McCOY, AND DESEAN JACKSON PROVIDE THREE DYNAMIC OFFENSIVE PLAYERS THAT CAN PUT UP RECORD NUMBERS IF THEY MAINTAIN SUCCESS.  I AM SURE THAT ONCE THE SEASON GOES ON, WE WILL FIND MORE PLAYERS THAT STEP UP INCLUDING THE TIGHT END’S BRENT CELEK AND ZACK ERTZ.  AND AS HIS REIGN CONTINUES, CHIP WILL BE ABLE TO ADD MORE OF “HIS PLAYERS”, PLAYERS THAT HE KNOWS WILL FIT THIS OFFENSE.  WELL, SO MUCH ABOUT THE OFFENSE HERE…WE CANNOT FORGET ABOUT THE DEFENSE.  ALTHOUGH THE GAME BECAME CLOSE AT THE END, THE EAGLE’S DEFENSE LOOKED MUCH MORE MALIGNED.  THE RUN DEFENSE WAS STELLAR, AS THEY HELD STAR RUNNING BACK ALFRED MORRIS TO UNDER 75 YARDS TOTAL.  THEY ALSO CREATED TWO TURNOVERS, WITH TWO INTERCEPTIONS.  DURING LAST YEAR, THE EAGLES ONLY HAD THIRTEEN TOTAL TURNOVERS.  SO THE DEFENSE GOT A B- GRADE FROM ME.  ALL IN ALL, THE FIRST GAME WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AND GIVES US A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT WE CAN EXPECT TO SEE FROM THE “OREGON DUCK!”  THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY EXCITING AND EXPLOSIVE.  THIS WAS THE MOST FAST TEMPO I HAVE EVER SAW.  STAY TUNED…..ImageImage

REVAMPED EAGLES GAME DAY WEEK#1

Here we are folks…the day that all of us Die Hard Eagles fans look forward to every year…Opening Day! There is only one thing that we are and have been looking to more and that is to finally win a Super Bowl! Unfortunately I am not here to tell you they will win one this yet or anytime soon. However, I am here to tell you that as a DIE HARD…Eat, Sleep, Bleed Green…that this team has a chance to be exciting.

Fourteen Years is a long time in any stretch of the word. For the past fourteen years us Eagles fans have had to suffer, cheer, be disappointed, a roller coaster of emotions. Under Andy Reid, this team has enjoyed one of its best runs in history. There will be so many memories for us all. These long lasting memories are burned in our brains.

The first memory coming at the 1998 Draft…when the Eagles took Donovan McNabb with the first pick and a 100 unhappy fans that traveled up the turnpike booed. Wow! Yes I will never forget that. Then I remember it was like week 7 or 8 that season, Donovan McNabb behind Tutor Doug Pederson getting his first game action. There is the Redskins game when he made the triple step and fakes out the Redskins secondary on the way to a first down.

There was 2001.the unprecedented trip to the NFC Championship and a lead at the half against the heavily favored Rams. Then it was Marshall Faulk who ran up and down and our Super Bowl hopes were dashed by the Rams as a fourth down pass slipped through the outstretched of receiver Freddie Mitchell.

Then there was 2002, the year all of the nation really thought that the Eagles were going to win the big one finally. The trip to the second NFC Championship, this time at home. This would be our last moment as Eagles fans in the Vet. Tampa Never has won in Philly during blah blah blah these kinds if conditions…when it’s colder than 40Degrees! We had them guys! We were right there. Duce Staley runs in am Eagles Touchdown early in the first quarter and then that was it. Another chance squandered as Ronde Barber picked off a pass that will live in infamy. The Buccaneers went on to win their first Super Bowl behind Brad Johnson (journey man).

Then the 2003 season…after Brian Westbrook and the magical season that ended in the NFC Championship at the Linc! The once again heavily favored Eagles fell to the soon be Super Bowl bound Carolina Panthers. I will never forget Donovan getting knocked out of that game. The feeling of hopelessness as fans as the Panthers ran for over 200 yards.

The signings of perennial pro bowlers Terrell Owens and Jevon Kearse. That magical run in 2004 where everything the Eagles did turned to gold. That Monday Night game against Dallas when Donovan McNabb went off and had that wild scramble that ended up in a Touchdown. Then the Extreme Cold at the Linc facing the Atlanta Falcons in their fourth straight NFC Championship. The big hits on Michael Vick and Alge Crumpler. The Eagles finally winning the NFC. Brian Dawkins holding that trophy high above his head. And then the Super Bowl…Terrell Owens playing hurt. The almost win and then a win taken away. The mismanagement of the clock. The loss. These are all memories burned in our brains.

Ok…then the McNabb/TO fallout, the disappointment the next few seasons. Then the glimmer of hope in playoff games against the New Orleans Saints. The playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals…another chance to go to a SuperBowl. And finally the last few painful years. Well folks…these memories will last until we finally win the big one.

However, I bring some good news as the Eagles are now under a new regime. It may take a few seasons to get back to excellence, but the Eagles will get there. Mark my words. Chip Kelly turned around an Oregon program that was in a similar situation. The Ducks had been good and then the coach lost the team. Kelly rebuilt the Ducks and they have been a powerhouse ever since. He will do the same with the Eagles.

Don’t expect great things this year. However, there is so much promise and hope that us Eagles fans can hold onto. And it all starts tonight on Monday Night. Just like that Monday night in Washington which seems like eternities ago. The Eagles march into Washington as underdogs. No one really knows what to expect from this team as Kelly did not show much in preseason. However, tonight there will definitely be some offensive excitement! Hopefully this Defense has matured and learns to play within its limits.

Ok…it’s almost GOTIME!!!!! So as we prepare for another Eagles Season…lets do the chant that we can only hope will last deep into January and a trip to the big dance! Until next time…E-A-G-L-E-S!!!! Eagles!!!!!!!

EAGLES DRAFT 2013

With the first pick in the 1997 draft…The Philadelphia Eagles take John Harris from the University of West Virginia…who…who…who the hell is that?!!!!!! Jon Harris…I did not even see him on the draft board. WTF! Years earlier…with the 12th pick in the draft…wait wait wait. The Eagles have traded the 12th pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the seventh pick in the draft. They have also given up their two 2nd Round Picks!!!! WTF! With the Seventh pick in the 1995 Draft…the Eagles select Mike Mamula.

Mike Mamula will probably go down as the Eagles worst first round draft pick ever especially because if what they gave up to get him. I mean, Mamula did have an average NFL career with over 30 career sacks, however, a first and two second rounders for him. Are you kidding me?!
Tampa Bay went on to draft Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and Ronde Barber with those three picks! Holy Mistake Rhodes!

In 2003, Andy Reid have up the 30th and 62nd pick to move up to the 15th pick and selected Jerome McDougle. Who? Terrell Suggs, Troy Polamolu, and Kevin Williams were all taken after the Eagles would have picked at 30. Wow! Definitely Andy Reid’s worst draft pick, even more worse than Freddie Mitchell.

My how things change. Andy Reid is now the Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and inherited the First Pick in the Draft. Chip Kelly, the Eagles new head coach inherited the fourth pick. Ironically, both coaches drafted an offensive lineman with their first pick. By the time The Eagles could make their pick…Lineman Eric Fischer had been snagged by Reid and the Chiefs, Lineman Luke Joekel had been drafted by the Jaguars, and the Miami Dolphins had traded up to draft Linebacker Dion Jordan, who had donned the other green of Oregon, yes that’s right, Chip Kelly’s Oregon.

Ok, well the Eagles feel that they got the steal of the draft and very well may have. Lane Johnson may have the most upside of the three Offensive Tackles drafted in the first round. In the second round, the Eagles drafted huge Tight End Zach Ertz. Ertz will ad to an already skilled Tight End position. Chip Kelly uses a lot of three tight end sets. In the third round, the Eagles took Defensive Tackle Bennie Logan. And in a pleasant surprise, traded up to the first pick in the fourth round to get Matt Barkley. Barkley, from USC, would have been the Number 1 Quarterback drafted last season but decided against coming out. So, in turn had a bad season and his stock dropped.

With Johnson, Ertz, and Barkley…the Eagles actually have three potential first round picks. In the fifth round, they took hard hitting safety Earl Wolff in what many analysts have named the best draft class of safety’s in over a decade. They rounded out the draft with two defensive lineman and a cornerback.

Well, we have all been here many times. We all know that draft classes sometimes take years to fully grade. However, the Eagles this season have a renewed passion and this draft looks very good on the outside looking in. The Eagles have drafted a bookend Offensive Tackle who could be a potential Pro Bowler, a Tight End who will definitely start in year one, a Defensive Tackle who will be in the mix, a future number one signal caller, and a safety that will probably start. This is excellent for Chip Kelly. Who better to know this talent anyway other than a coach coming from college!

Anyways, it’s too early to judge but I have a good feeling about this draft. For the first time in years it felt like the Eagles carefully planned their draft strategy. Chip Kelly knows most of these players and should have been able to get some steals. I cannot wait for training camp. The starting offensive line will now feature perennial pro bowler Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, and Todd Herremans will be able to go back to guard. This team will also feature a three tight end attack. With a running game and a middle game, DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin should be able to go deep. Finally, Michael Vick should be able to have a descent season with some better protection. To Be Continued….

EARLY SUPER BOWL PREDICTION/ EAGLES TOP PRIORITIES

Well folks, the Super Bowl is still two weeks away and a lot can change in fifteen minutes…just ask GEICO. My pick for the Super Bowl before this season was of course The Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots. Yes, every year I think it’s Philly’s year to win the Big One. Those hopes faded fast in what has turned out to be one of the worst Eagles seasons in recent memory, which led to the firing of its all time winningest coach Andy Reid. Andy was great in Philly, but enough is enough and it is time to move on. Anyways, when the playoff teams were seeded, my early pick for the Super Bowl was the Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos. Well, both the Seahawks and Broncos lost in last minute fashion so that also went out the window.

This brings us to now. The two teams that are left standing are the surprise San Francisco 49ers (who lost the NFC Championship game a year ago) and the Baltimore Ravens who some experts did have reaching the big dance at the beginning of the year. A real quick analysis of this game and my prediction to follow. Both of these teams come into the game being coached by Brother’s John Harbaugh and Jim Harbaugh making this the Super Baugh…lol. Secondly, both of these teams are predicated on tough defense and a strong running game. Lets break it down by position. At Quarterback, we have Joe Flacco for the Baltimore Ravens who has come into his own the past few years and developed into a solid Signal Caller. On the other side, the 49ers will be led by Colin Kapernick, an amazing story in itself, who will be making his tenth NFL start in the Super Bowl. I like Kapernick’s pocket presence and skill set but the advantage definitely goes to Flacco and the Ravens.

At Running Back, the Ravens are powered by perennial all-pro Ray Rice who is capable of carrying the team in his shoulders by himself. However, Do not underestimate Frank Gore for the 49ers, who when healthy, is capable of putting up huge numbers. Slight advantage Ravens but not by much. In the Receiving/Tight End set the Ravens are fueled by Tory Smith and giant receiver Anquan Boldin. The 49ers have a few star receivers to go along with veteran Randy Moss, who could be an xfactor. The 49ers trump the Ravens on this side of the ball if Vernon Davis decides to bring his AGAME. Advantage 49ers. On Defense, these two teams play different styles but have similar results. I think both defenses are good but once again, the XFACTOR here is Ray Lewis. Ray is on a mission in his last season to go out with a bang. Advantage Ravens. The Special Teams on these teams are even. So this brings us to the intangibles…both Harbaugh’s are smart but John has more playoff experience and I always believe that is an important area to look at when analyzing these big game match ups.

Ok…so this brings me to my pick. I feel that this Super Bowl will be a competitive game with a lot of hard hitting, tough running, and some exciting offensive plays. I do not see this game becoming a blow out like many of these contests of the past, the two defenses are just too good. I am going to say that the Baltimore Ravens will win the Super Bowl 27-23 in a very close game…both teams will show heart and in the end the better team will come out on top, as Ray Lewis goes out with a bang. Real Quick, Pop Star Beyonce will be performing the Halftime Show and 50 contestants will be picked to join her on stage. This should be quite a scene and I am looking forward to that.

Now into the state of the Eagles. With the hiring if Chip Kelly, it’s obvious that the Eagles are looking to mirror the rest of the league in becoming a quick strike high powered offense. Well, my argument as always has been that the Eagles have been pretty decent in Offense the past few years, last year as an exception, but that had to do with the offensive line debacle in an injury plagued season. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I do not care if Tom Brady had played behind the Eagles line instead of Michael Vick, the team still would have ended up with the same record.

No, my argument with this team is consistently on the Defensive Side of the ball where they have no identity. Well, they can quickly fix this in the draft with their first three picks. The Eagles have the Fourth Pick in the First Round. If I were the Eagles, I would jump at the chance to draft Jarvis Jones, OLB from Georgia with the Fourth Pick. He is a special player that would bring not only leadership on the field, but also in the locker room. He is a DEFENSIVE PLAYMAKER. Seriously, he is a low risk, high reward pick as many analysts say he could be the top impact player in the entire draft. Ok second move, cut Nhamdi Asamough and cut your losses. In the second round, I am taking local Rutgers product Logan Ryan. Not only is Ryan big, tough, and physical, but he also has the speed to be a shut down corner. This is what the Eagles need that they never got from Nhamdi. Thirdly, I’m taking Free Safety D.J. Swearinger out of South Carolina who can cover, but he hits like a Brian Dawkins. I repeat, this is what the Eagles need, true playmakers that make a difference on Defense.

On offense, they have LeSean McCoy who is already a top 3 RB in the NFL. They just need to use him. They will be getting their star Offensive Tackle back from injury and some other key components to their OLine. Mix in a free agent or two and I think you sure up this position. At receiver, the Eagles still have talent with DJAX and Jeremy Maclin. They also have Jason Avant who I believe is underrated and underused. Wether they stick with Michael Vick one more year or go to Nick Foles, this offense can put up some points. It’s the Defense that has failed is year in and year out. Stay Tuned.

Ok…so it’s been awhile. Had some personal issues to attend to but I am back with a vengeance. Today I will cover a wide variety of topics. First off, I would personally like to give my condolences to the entire Saint Louis Cardinals Extended Family for losing one of the true Baseball Legends that were still alive. Yesterday, Stan Musial died at the ripe old age of 92. Well, many of us will not even see 75 so that is quite an accomplishment in itself. Musial in my mind has to be in the top 3 MLB players of all time list and he was an offensive legend. Stan Musial was probably the best all around hitter with both power and tenacity to ever play the game. RIP Stan…You were a true legend and gentleman.

Yesterday also marked the return of the NHL from its extended labor strike. There were quite a few key markee match ups including the Pittsburgh Penguins opening on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers. Well, the game did not disappoint as it was a well played game considering the long layoff…it took the Flyers two periods to really break off the rust. I must admit, I was totally shocked with the amount of support and fans that showed up all over the league yesterday, especially in Philly. There was. 10,000 people alone in the XFINITY Entertainment Lounge. With a shortened 48 game season, it should be interesting which teams will ultimately make the playoffs. By judging the games from Saturday, the playoffs are already here in spirit. This should make for some very exciting games and story lines. Stay Tuned.

Well, I worked all day and have not even turned on the TV…I had heard that Atlanta had an early lead on the 49ers in the NFC Championship. Well, my original picks for the Superbowl did not even make it to this round so at this point anything is possible. I was going to take the 49ers, but I feel that Atlanta has the edge at home. Also, I think they are out to prove that their season was not a fluke. The AFC Championship tonight…The Patriots are favored to beat the Baltimore Ravens. I’m going out on a limb to say that Ray Lewis will have one last hurrah and stun the Patriots faithful.

Speaking of Football, the Eagles did finally get a head coach this week by signing Chip Kelly. We will visit this topic many times in the near future but my only early opinion is that the Philadelphia Fan Base is out of control for some of the statements that they have made. C’MON give the guy a chance! Lets see what he can do?

On the music scene, Anthrax announced a new release of an EP this spring featuring cover songs from bands of the 60’s and 70’s. Anthrax also announced that they will be doing the Among the Living Anniversary Tour, following the footsteps of its other Big Four members. They are actually scheduled to play a show in AC so I’m sure that I will try and make it again. Also in other big news, Metallica announced that they will be doing the Orion Festival once again this summer. Should be AWESOME!

As you all know, I am a huge fan of Heavy Metal, but I am far from proclaiming myself Eddie Trunk or anywhere close to his knowledge of music. I would even venture to say that my best friend Aaron knows much more about music than me. Well, while using Pandora I actually heard a tune from Stryper…who??? Yes Stryper! I totally forgot how good this band was and them I did some research and realized that they released an album in 2011 called “The Covering” in which they covered some classics from such bands as Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, the Scorpions and a few others! The album is SICK and I would recommend it to any fan of metal or hard rock. These guys are way underrated in my mind. Michael Sweet is a Musical genius. Look for his new autobiography due out this spring along with a Greatest Hits Remaster album followed by a Brand New Studio Album! Awesome News! Can’t wait…so looking forward to this. Anyways, I was researching Christian Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Bands and I came across a band named Pillar. Let me tell you, heard some of their material and was absolutely impressed. More music news to follow, so many exciting stories including Def Leppard doing Hysteria as a Week Long Guest in Las Vegas. Wow! Wish I could be there for that.

Finally, I thought it necessary to bring up the fact that I think I had posted back when the school shootings occurred in Connecticut, that the one major problem of our government during these crises…is failure to act! Well, here we are a month has went by and still morning on the part of our government. Not even one BILL! I mean…geez they owe it to these families to do something. And the other horrible thing about these tragedies is that after time they are forgotten. This crime cannot and should not be forgotten and the Government must take action in the Gun Control and Mental Health realms. Well…thanks for letting me vent lol. Anyways…it’s good to be back…thanks again to my loyal fans!
